Recent Meredith Quotes

A sampling of common phrases used by Meredith frequently that demonstrate a slightly different dictionary and logic than the rest of us.  :)

"Let's do that tomorrow-day!"  We are now adopting this excellent new word "tomorrow-day" in our vocabulary.  Great kid logic here - we say today, yesterday, someday, everyday.
Why not say tomorrowday?!

Upon wearing a new t-shirt for pj's that has music on the back (part of a Bach work).
"Look Daddy, this shirt has lessons on it!"  Life as a child of music teachers...hope she learns and appreciates music as more than just "lessons" someday. ;)

"How your day, Mama?" said on average 1/2 a dozen times each hour of everyday.  So, this weary Mama has taught Meredith the song, "This is the day that the Lord has made" - because, instead of wearily answering that question approximately 50 times each day, singing is a kinder/more appropriate response than the actual truth sometimes. :)

When asked if she'd like something more at mealtimes (or often anytime) the answer nearly always includes, "Um....yes, just a little bit." and/or "Um....yes, not too much though."

"I don't like hot sauce.  Just Daddy likes hot sauce, not me."  Said solemnly and many times each day at random moments.  Somehow, when we told her once that hot sauce was just something Daddy used with his dinner, she found this to a be profound truth and one that everyone needs to be reminded of often.

And...here is a clip of Meredith having one of her many, imaginary role-play conversations with her doll.  Guess who's the Mama here?!

Meredith's phrases

Meredith is chattering away these days.  Lately there are a few phrases that come up fairly often throughout each day (oh, maybe several DOZEN times!).
Here are her most repeated and favorite phrases... :)

"Itchy boo-boo, Mama!"
- yes, those mosquito bites are itchy!

"Come eat, Mama"
- an invitation to dine at her play kitchen (and, yes please, I'll always have another cup of tea)

"Play park...swing, and slide...and swings!"
- always that same phrase over and over again as we near the park.  So much anticipation!!

"Daddy, work, choo-choo"
- yes, Daddy is at work and he takes the train to get there :)

"Mama, come play people!"
- vintage fisher price people are all the rage around here :)

"Pink shoes on!"
- declaring that she put her shoes on ALL by herself, and she is ready to go!"

"Baby Ellie crying"
- said with a look of concern as she clutches her babydoll.  This statement is usually followed by her saying, "rock baby" and commencing to rock her baby for a few seconds.

Chicago Trip: #4 - Puppy!

We stayed with our dear friends, Andy and Lydia while we were in the suburbs visiting family.  Since we had been there last, Meredith has grown from a little baby into a toddler...and....Andy and Lydia got a puppy!  We all fell in love with Bixby and this video gives a glimpse into Meredith's daily (hourly?) excitement with this sweet pup. :)

words

Meredith has been keeping us on our toes this month - saying a new word or two every few days! For a while, earlier in the summer, she had kept up her favorite "uh-oh" and the usual Mama and Dada.

Then she moved on to:"okay" ("o-tay")...and recently she's added this variety:

1. choo-choo (when she hears a train passing at the station down the street)
2. car ("caa" - she says it with a Bostonian accent!) ;)
3. shoe (sounds like "do")
4. cracker ("ca-ker")
5. bye bye ("ba ba")
6. all done ("a da")
7. hot ("ot") - she says this about whatever we are eating...

And, this Sunday, while we were singing Holy, Holy, Holy during family worship, she joined us on the first three words... "Oooo-ly, aaooly, oly" It brought tears to my eyes - can't believe that she's growing up so fast. :)
