Ice Caves

On Thursday we spent the later part of the afternoon hiking to the Ice Caves in the Cascade mountains. It was a short and easy hike each way (2 miles total) - which was perfect because we began at 6pm!

Sooooooo beautiful! We love mountains like these!
Meredith was a trooper and fell asleep in the sling on the way back. We were glad we brought a blanket to bundle her into because we were surprised by how cool the breeze was once we reached the ice and snow!

We learned that the cold air coming down the side of the mountain with the water freezes and then combined with the warm air on the ground, ice caves form. You can go into the caves, but it's quite dangerous because you never know when they may collapse! (we didn't get too close!)

...three robins with us...

Ethan, Carrie and Karen Poppy took us on a beautiful hike in Laramie Park in northern Washington. 2 cute families! the overlook was soooo beautiful!
we love you guys!

Meredith loved riding snuggled close to Daddy. :-)

Picnic with the Robins...Meredith meets Karen Poppy!

We shared a lovely picnic (delicious food thanks to Carrie!) with the Robins on Thursday. Karen Poppy (8 months) and Meredith (just about 3 months) began their friendship and we enjoyed a wonderful time of reconnecting with Ethan and Carrie.

Such dear friends - so, so wish we lived closer to you guys!!

First Father's Day

Erik had his first Father's Day this Sunday. :-) He and Meredith snuggled in front of the fire at the Hutchinson's home (yes, we all cozied up in front of the fire - it's cool here in Seattle!)

Later, over a delicious dinner of salmon, rice, and asparagus (yummy!) Meredith flashed some smiles at her favorite Auntie Jane H. :-)

Beautiful Seattle!

We are in Seattle! It's so beautiful and cool here...temps have been in the lower 60s. :-) So - lots of walks, sitting out on the deck to enjoy beautiful sunsets, fires to sit and read by and delicious meals! All at the Hutchinsons gracious and cozy home. It's such a restful and warm place - and what a treat to be with such dear friends.

Meredith and Cooper (dog) have been getting acquainted. Meredith usually just stares wide eyed and doesn't mind too many slobbery kisses! She likes his black coat and happy disposition. Just no loud barking, please!

Training for...

Meredith is already trying out different activities to figure out what she might like to do later in life. Natually, since she is still unable to talk, we have been trying to determine what these might be through her motions. So far we have seen four distinct things she is working on.

The first, and most deliberate of all, happened when she was only a week old. Sitting on her daddy's lap one morning, MJ put her hand to her forehead and thrust it out, saluting me as she looked at me right in the eye. She continued to do this six or seven times, as I (thinking she was responding to me) saluted her in return. Though we are not too enthused about her joining the army, she might just be wanting to follow our good friend Chutch's footsteps and join the army band.

The second, which MJ does frequently, is pumping her legs. We think this must be a sure sign that she will be a runner. This makes her parents very proud.

The third, while only occasional, involves waving her arm in circles. It looks just like the third base coach encouraging his player to round the base and go for home. She would make it far in baseball.

The last, for which MJ has gotten the most practice, has been her training to take the top position in the world for professional hiccuping.

If you have an idea about which one of these would best fit Meredith the best, leave you vote in the comment section below.

Sympathetic Bouncing

You know you are a father when...

Last night, I was sitting on the couch holding MJ in my arms with the computer on my lap. MJ was calm and very content, but the computer was being considerably stubborn and slow about loading a website. So in an effort to coax the computer along, I began bouncing the computer on my knees. wow!

Photography by Bruno

So...Bruno is officially an amazing photographer. Here's a few shots he caught of Meredith during our Memorial Day picnic. We think he's really captured MJ's personality right now. Thanks, Bruno!!
